From Bologna we had to take a 45 minute bus ride to Bolognese. It's a suburb of Bologna to the Lamborghini factory. They are one of a small handfull of companies that 100% hand assemble their cars. They also allow you to walk the factory floor while they are putting the cars together. I couldn't wait!
We arrived a little early for our 2:00pm tour so we walked around the very small and quiet town. Elaina, as always, made friends right away. They weren't much for conversation though.
It was a short walk to the factory. You can't miss the building.
Once we walked through the gates. This beauty was sitting near the office entrance.I hate to ruin everyone's excitment out there but they do not allow any photos or video on the factory floor so they watched and made us surrender our cell phones and cameras into lockers. It was a small group of maybe 12 people on our tour so there was no way around this for me. The following photos are from the museum they have just in front of the factory doors. Enjoy!
I think we all had a Countach poster on our walls when we were young boys. I had to stand next to it. The top of the roof comes up to my waste.
Flat black. They said that flat black, yellow, orange, white, and green are the most popular colors these past two years. I like that. It looks like a stealth bomber to me.
This is a prototype that never was. It's a topless model but the driver and passenger are seperated. Think of it like the old SpeedRacer and original Batmobile. I like it, but not very practical.
Lamborghini makes championship winning formula speed boats. Here's a 2000hp engine!
Old school boat motor
Formula One cars
One of my favorites, a Diablo GT car. This was a great era for GT racing.
New GT racer, it's 100% carbon fiber. There's no paint or clear coat on it at all! This is an actual police vehicle used by the Italian police. I believe they said besides this one there are 4 others in exsistance that are really used. "Where you goin? NO WHERE!"
This one is painted flat black. The rear end of this car is pure perfection.
After our tour this pulled up outside. It was driven by Valentino Balboni.
Valentino has been an employee since 1968. He's been the official test driver for Lamborghini for over 30 years. If you've purchased a Lambo in the last 30 years this man was the first person to drive it. All of their cars are road tested before being shipped out to the customer. He's since retired but is still a "driving consultant" for the company which still allows him to road test the cars.
